A Working Mom, a Big Idea, and a Lot of Craft Supplies

I started The Yellow Daisy because I kept having ideas for events I wanted to go to, but they didn’t really exist around here.

Bookish events. Fun workshops. Kid-friendly experiences. Creative nights out. Things that felt a little different, but still affordable and welcoming.

I also kept meeting small business owners in our area who were doing really cool things. Shops, restaurants, vendors, makers, authors, venues. People who were working hard and just needed more people to know they existed.

So The Yellow Daisy became my way of bringing all of that together.

A way to take the ideas in my head and turn them into real events. A way to help local businesses get in front of new people. A way to create something fun in our community that didn’t feel like the same thing everyone else was already doing.

The name is personal to me too. Yellow comes from my youngest son, Davi, and his favorite color. Daisy comes partly from my love of Gilmore Girls and Lorelai’s 1,000 yellow daisies. I wanted the name to feel whimsical and pretty, but not too fancy. Something cheerful, creative, and warm.

After the Very Bookish Holiday Market sold out and over 100 people came, I remember thinking, “Okay. Maybe I can actually do this.”

That event was one of the first times I really saw the idea working. People came out. They shopped. They met local vendors. They talked books. They stayed. It felt like more than just a market, and that’s always the goal.

I don’t want Yellow Daisy events to feel thrown together. I care about the theme, the details, the feeling in the room, and the local partnerships. I want someone to feel comfortable coming alone. I want people to make friends. I want kids to say, “This is so fun.” I want someone to try something new and leave proud of themselves.

Some of my favorite events so far have been the Very Bookish Holiday Market, Book Prom, and the sourdough workshops. I love meeting new people. I love showcasing vendors. I love meeting fellow book lovers. And I really love staying in touch with people after workshops and seeing them succeed, especially my sourdough students.

But behind the scenes, it is a lot.

It’s supplies taking over my house.It’s late nights planning after the kids go to bed.It’s answering messages during lunch breaks.It’s doing most of it myself.It’s hauling bins, décor, crafts, books, snacks, and whatever else I convinced myself I needed for the “vibe.”

And it’s also trying to do all of that while working full-time, being a wife and mom, and making sure I don’t run myself into the ground.

That part is hard. I love this, but I’m still learning how to build something without giving every single piece of myself away in the process.

At the heart of it, The Yellow Daisy is for everyone. It’s for kids, families, moms, book lovers, women who need a night out, people who want to try something new, and small businesses that deserve to be seen.

My big dream is for The Yellow Daisy to be known for fun, beautiful, immersive events. Someday, I would love to have my own event space and play place, and I would love for this to become my full-time job.

I also want to grow into corporate events like team-building workshops, employee appreciation events, creative lunch-and-learns, family days, holiday parties, and bookish retreats.

For now, I’m building it one event at a time.

One idea.One packed bin.One local partnership.One “Are you doing this again?” at a time.

The Yellow Daisy is a place where people can try something new, meet someone kind, and leave happier than they came.

That’s the dream. 🌼
